QVA x QCEA Encounter Retreat 2026 – Pathways to Peace
QVA’s theme for all retreats in 2026 is ‘Pathways to Peace’ so all retreat participants will have the opportunity to explore what that means to the world and understand what that means to them as individuals.
What?
This retreat involves visiting Quaker Council for European Affairs (QCEA) to learn about the work of Quakers within the European Union. You will explore how QCEA is advocating for peace, equality, justice in migration, demilitarisation, conscientious objection, and speaking truth to power in a crisis of democratic freedom. This will include:
- meeting civil society groups and EU officials
- guest speakers, themed activities, and discussion groups
- opportunities to explore Brussels and experience local culture
- Meeting for Worship at the start and end of each day, including time to worship with Quakers from Brussels Meeting.
Where?
The Encounter Retreat will largely take place at Quaker Council for European Affairs based at Quaker House, Brussels and other places around Brussels such as European institutions or cultural venues like museums. You will be staying at the Institute of Cultural Affairs, Brussels.
Who?
This retreat is open to anybody aged 18 and over. You do not have to be a Quaker and you do not have to have any prior knowledge of the work of Quakers in the European Union. All are welcome.
